FLiP (Functional Literacy Programme) on Wheels Initiative

An industry initiative to make rural India digitally literate

In 2018, India@75 Foundation launched the Functional Literacy Programme (FLiP) to help the unorganized sector navigate the digital space. FLiP is essentially a three-module programme scientifically designed for easy dissemination and absorption.

To scale up this Programme to rural India, FLiP-on-Wheels was initiated through adaption of the Functional Literacy Programme (FLiP). It seeks to widen the reach of FLiP by taking digital literacy to the doorsteps of the underserved communities in rural India. It aims to reach the vulnerable sections who lack the awareness and knowledge to access digital devices and technologies and make them digitally literate.

The FoW model is unique in its approach as it takes the learning to the doorsteps of the beneficiaries. The FLiP-on-Wheels pilot uses a van, equipped with teaching aids and manned by a facilitator and a mobilizer. The van tours villages, stopping by each village at a designated time every day for a span of 6-10 days. Until now, 2 phases of FLiP-on-Wheels have successfully been implemented in partnership with the civil society organisations that work with rural and semi-urban communities.
