This year on Gandhi Jayanti, 2 October 2016, Government of India observed the Rashtriya Swachhta Diwas as well. On this occasion, India@75, a CII Initiative, organized a Cleanathon & Cyclothon in Varanasi with the objective to urge all Indians to take up swachhta as their personal responsibility and join the ‘Swatch Bharat’ movement. The activity saw participation of over 500 youth volunteers across Varanasi from students & NGOs. The activity began with the flag off of the cyclothon wherein students of Banaras Hindu University cycled in & around the campus narrating slogans on Swatch Bharat and sensitizing the public. They made several stops on the course i.e Lanka market area, AssiGhat, Vishwanath Temple, and took on the task of cleaning these spots. Immense passion about cleanliness & its importance could be seen among the volunteers as they participated with full zeal and undertook the cleaning activity without any hesitance. This initiative was organized with the support of Ministry of Corporate Affairs, Banaras Hindu University, National Service Scheme, Sakaar&Cykul.
